The Falklands

This is the next big thing. This is the one thing that the UK does not need right now, and with the people we have in power, and the people who are likely to come into power Argentina has the best chance ever to take control of the islands and take the oil that we have found there.

Does anyone thing we will stand upto them this time?

  1. The Argentinian Govt is currently playing the patriotism card to get it out of the crap. But (right or wrong) there is a keenly felt sense of injustice among the common folk in Argentina.

Castro and Chavez are loving it. Argentina is now a democracy and the dictators would love to do it down. Backing Argentina into a confrontation with us is high on their agenda.

Although unpopular, I think we should cut a deal. It would cement democracy in Argentina, give long term protection to the Falkland Islanders and enable both the Argentinians and us to exploit the resources around the Falklands. Offering to negotiate from a position of strength would also gain a lot of respect around the world.
